Colour the music of your soul (Devon author's new work)By Carl Munson Thanks to the likes of Oprah Winfrey and our very own Richard and Judy, it’s no longer embarrassing to own self-help and personal development books. The mind-body-spirit and popular psychology sections of the big book stores have grown massively in recent years and titles like John Gray’s Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus and the recent spiritual blockbuster – Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code have made their mark on the popular consciousness. But you needn’t look to the USA for inspiration of this kind, as author Sarah Kay Banfield is in our midst with her new personal growth book - ‘Colouring the Music of your Soul’, penned and printed in and around Newton Abbot. A refreshing change from the ‘7 days to change’ or ‘101 ideas for the perfect life’ format, Sarah’s first book is a light read with “no long exercises to complete”; a joy for any reader who wants to avoid detailing their ideal life on a big, blank piece of paper or starting yet another journal. Containing personal experiences, poems and drawings to illustrate the author’s own spiritual and personal growth journey, it’s full of “encouraging self-empowerment for everybody” says Sarah. “Letting your imagination run wild, the book’s main message is not to discard any parts of yourself, rather integrate them and begin enjoying yourself,” explains Sarah, who describes herself as an Integration Process therapist. “Have fun and discover your own personal pot of gold at the bottom of your rainbow,” she says encouragingly, “You’ll gain insights, which help you to cope with all the challenges that life presents. Enjoy the shadow as well as the light and set yourself free!” One reader said: “This book doesn’t waste time trying to teach you anything new, it’s about something you already know, but might have lost touch with - yourself. It’s more a help-yourself book, then a self-help book.” Based on the author’s “10-year experience helping people deal with grief, panic attacks, depression, phobias, job dissatisfaction, life dissatisfaction and disabling repetitive behaviour”, Colouring the Music of your Soul seeks to assist the integration of the conscious mind – “the one we interact with often” says Sarah, with the subconscious mind - “the one we often ignore”. Sarah’s own journey of discovery has taken her to Germany, Australia and New Mexico before opening her own therapy centre in Brighton. Now, having returned to her roots in Devon, caring for her elderly father, writing books and offering ‘rainbow soul readings’, her message is clear: "Remember each individual has his own gift for the world. Being yourself; empowering yourself is the reason for your journey. Whatever you are doing, however you are living your life, you are on your path, experiencing your process; that is your unique beauty of colour." After working with Sarah, one client said: “I had suffered from panic attacks and agoraphobia for as long as I could remember. Four sessions and I was able to go to France on holiday for the first time ever.” You can meet Sarah in person on Thursday 15th of June at The Mitre Bookshop in Newton Abbot, where she will host the official launch of her book and give a brief talk about her experiences. Colouring the Music of your Soul costs £7.99 and can be ordered through Sarah’s website: www.devatherapy.co.uk or call 01626 352269 for more details. |
